My daughter is now 6 years old and has started asking about God or saying things like God will handle this or that.  Not sure where she gets some of the information, maybe TV shows.  I am an atheist and my wife is agnostic.  Neither of us are against religion or our children learning about it or practicing.  As a matter of fact, I have great respect for those who choose to practice and live by their religion.  Since I do not practice religion, what is the best way to teach my daughter about God and religion?  Any suggestions?

I think it's awesome that you're both willing to teach your kids about religion/god, given both of your personal choices!

I would suggest getting a comparative religions book, reading it and then paraphrase it for your kids when they ask questions about a particular faith/god/theology. An excellent book is "The World's Religions" by Huston Smith.

Another idea would be to check out a bookstore for books on religions aimed to be read to or by kids. Although, I don't recall ever seeing a comparative religions book for kids, so you may need to go to a bookstores for specific religions or possibly even contact the minister of local churches, mosques, synagogues, etc.

Of course it's natural for kids to be curious about God.  It's pervasive in culture.  Besides picking up books, you might also try visiting the Sunday schools of local churches.  Enroll your child in a Sunday school and allow them to attend, then ask them questions about what they're learning.  I'm really glad that you're so open to helping your child learn.

Mark I dont beleive you can teach your daughter anything about God if you don't know him yourself. I totally respect you and what you are trying to do with your daughter. But if you don't believe in God's existence. Than whhat can you teach about him that is genuine?
